Natural Beauty (Book Review)

Posted on October 1, 2014 at 8:00 AM

I can remember as a little girl the very first book that made the greatest impact on my life.

It was book by author Judy Blume “Are You There God? It’s Me Margaret”

Some of you might think that it’s weird… since I’m a Buddhist now… but there is always that book that just speaks to your heart.

So over the weekend, determined to carve out an hour or two of some me time…I came across this book titled “Natural Beauty “by Author Leslie Dubois. Intrigued by the book cover…I know, I know, I am always reminding my readers not to judge a book by its book cover…but let’s face it…sometimes it’s the book cover that draws us in.

I’ll be the first to say, I didn’t know what to expect from this book, but from the first page…I was hooked.

This is a very powerful book of self-discovery, natural hair tips, love and everything in between. Leslie Dubois did a phenomenal judge of telling a story that every woman has experienced at least once in her life.

The Novella, “Natural Beauty”, is about Mahogany Brown, the main character who finds herself in a seven year relationship with her boyfriend Vinyay Gupta, who has not put a ring on it...

As events unfold, Mahogany ends the relationships with Vinyay and cuts her hair off in a drunken fit….and here is where the story really begins to unfold. As Mahogany, discovers how to take care and love her natural hair, she learns how to take care and love… herself... and discovers a brand new World around her.

"Natural Beauty" spoke to me the same way "Are You There God" It's Me Margaret" spoke to me. Both books are very realistic to the trials and tribulation of being born a female. As a woman, I think this book is one of those books that every woman should definitely read...Natural Beauty blends facts... and fiction... about real life situation in a very entertaining, humorous, and very educational way. I think this is one of those books that women will be reading years to come.

I Love It! And Highly Recommend It!

P.S.

I love the book so much…I had to give it a theme song.
